What is the significance of a cross in a dream?

i had a dream where i entered a house and was talking to a fish, when i left it was dark outside and i was being chased by the vampire bats. They could not attack me because i was wearing a cross. In real life i do wear a small gold cross and it was the same one that i was wearing in a dream. I got this cross as a gift from my mom on my 20th birthday. However, even though i am religious i do have my doubts and questions. There was time when i turned away from religion at all but than came back to it. Relationship between me and my mom is not too healthy. I judge her a lot and she on the other hand does not support my choice to join the fbi. I do not know if it is significant for my dream but if anyone is good at interpreting dreams and could help me out, i would be very glad.
