Do hard times make you revert back to a childlike state?

The money i spend on a game keeps me occupied for a month or i could blow it in 2 hours in a bar. I'm being creative again like i was as a kid, designing stuff making little inventions, tinkering about with my tools. I have fell into the self loathing and despair trap before when i heard those 4 little words "sorry you're paid off" But isn't it funny when somebody shouts "wanker" at me when my back is turned because i have a bag of computer parts or a book from the library. Whats more pathetic? the person calling me a wanker or the fact he's standing outside a bar smoking at 12 pm on a workday?
