Do key tattoos have any significant meaning?

Sure. It means that's what they wanted when they sat down in the chair. Hehe. No really, it could mean many different things depending on what the wearer was thinking when they picked it out. It's not always easy to define art, or even WHY we might like a particular thing. Art experts have to be partially psychologists. The same holds true for artists, to a large degree. People can get many different interpretations about the same piece, depending on who is viewing it. Key to your heart, key of knowledge, key to success, etc. To someone who has been locked up, it could symbolize freedom. Art is art. The definition of art is that it gives the viewer an emotional response when viewed. That's one reason I rail against 'quote' tattoos so much on here. They're NOT art, they're philosophy. Whether they have a 'Deep Personal Meaning', which all the young people hassle each other about constantly, is a moot point. They have a meaning, all right. Time will tell if it grows stale and stagnant after being read back to them hundreds of times, by well-meaning strangers who just KNOW you want them to talk to you. But as far as art goes, it's fairly subjective, hard ofentimes to interpret, and STILL, a picture is worth a thousand words. But as far as the key goes, I'll bet there's someone running around with the lock it was made for, tattooed on them. Sorry, I got off the subject a little. Take care.
