How would you feel i you've never had a chance to get to know your significant others parents?

me and my beau have been together 5 years and the most me nd his mom have done is say hello and a random how are y today. I ask him all the time and he now says he don't see the point cause his mom wont want to sit and have dinner with me. I asked why and he says because she doesn't see a point in getting to know his girlfriends if we aren't engaged. I am so hurt by this. what do you think?
